What is JodoJodo is one of the  Koryu, or traditional martial arts, that grew out of the turbulent history of Japan. In Jodo a wooden staff of about 128mm in length and usually made of Japanese white oak is used to defend against an attacking swordsman. History of Jodo
The origins of Jodo are shrouded in myths and legends. One such story describes a battle between Musashi Miyamoto, the famed swordsman, and Muso Gonnosuke. Miyamoto is said to have defeated Gonnosuke in a contest wherein Miyamoto used his favorite two sword technique while Gonnosuke used a  bo, a long wooden staff about six feet in length. Gonnosuke's life was spared leaving him to meditate on his defeat. | |
